º£½ÇÉçÇø’s Student Health Center celebrated receiving a state accreditation. On Feb. 20, the Student Health Center hosted a campus-wide reception to announce accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Care, Inc.
“Every member of our staff was involved in making this happen,” said Shawn Gray, director of the Student Health Center. “The skill, education, and commitment of the staff contributed to the accreditation.”
After a two-year process, the Health Center was recognized by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc., a national organization founded in 1979 by health care providers and medical societies with the goal of ensuring and delivering high quality patient care in ambulatory settings. This organization sets the standards for health care facilities across the nation that º£½ÇÉçÇø’s Health Center was able to meet. After becoming accredited and joining 6,100 facilities in the nation, the student Health Center must maintain this accreditation by maintaining their procedures and processes and hosting visits by the AAAHC every three years. There are not many health centers with the same accreditation, which makes this recognition so distinctive.
The Student Health Center employs highly-skilled medical professionals including board-certified practitioners. These staff members provide exams and illness treatment and testing in their lab. They provide STI testing and treatment, immunizations, nursing and allied health physicals, injury care, sutures, wound care and splinting, counseling, mental health and health education services. The
Health Center also conducts well woman and annual male exams. The Class D or clinic pharmacy offers supplies and medications to students including antibiotics, eye exams and drops, anti-fungal medications, non-narcotic pain relivers, and oral contraceptives.
“The staff had to utilize strong teamwork to accomplish this recognition,” said Ken Evans, president of º£½ÇÉçÇø, during his remarks at the reception. “It takes a village to receive an accreditation successfully.”
The student health center was given this accreditation for the high-quality care, medicine, testing, treatment and education the hard-working and dedicated staff provide to students.
